CS/CS/HB 1297 — Capital Sexual Battery

On October 1, 2023, HB 1297 went into effect. This bill amends § 794.011, Florida Statutes and creates § 921.1425, Florida Statutes. The bill provides for death sentences for certain child sexual offenders.

CS/CS/HB 1627 - Pretrial Release and Detention

On January 1, 2024, these provisions will take effect. This HB amends § 903.011, § 903.047, § 903.0471 and § 907.041, Florida Statutes. 

CS/CS/SB 130 - Domestic Violence

On July 1, 2023, SB 130 went into effect. This bill amends § 61.13 and § 741.30. The bill requires the court with jurisdiction over the proceeding to consider factors in deciding whether shared parental responsibility in detrimental to the child. 

CS/CS/SB 692 — Sexual Offenses Definitions

On October 1, 2022, SB 692 went into effect after it was unanimously passed by the Florida Senate in February 2022 and approved by the Governor June 3, 2022.

CS/HB 537 — Custody and Supervision of Specified Offenders

On May 25, 2023, Governor Ron DeSantis signed HB 537, toughening penalties for sex criminals. The HB prohibits basic gain-time for persons convicted of committing or attempting, soliciting, or conspiring to commit a sexual battery on or before July 1, 2023. The bill amends § 944.275, § 948.05, § 948.30, Florida Statutes.
